Hey guys, a little challenge for you: what's wrong in the sentence below???

Olá pessoal, um pequeno desafio para vocês: o que está errado na frase abaixo???

It's funny that MANY times we come across some mistakes especially in these kinds of pictures + saying.

É engraçado que MUITAS vezes cruzamos com alguns erros especialmente nesses tipos de foto + dizeres.

If you said TO FAR is wrong, you're RIGHT!!! Here, TOO should be written with double O and it means more than enough, excessively, not only the preposition TO. In other cases it can mean "also", "as well".

Se você disse TO FAR está errado, você está CERTO!!! Aqui, TOO deve ser escrito com dois Os e significa mais que suficiente, excessivamente, não apenas a preposição TO. Em outros casos pode significar "também".

Good morning, guys!!! Today I'm bringing up a question many students have, I experience this all the time during my classes or when I see people (whose 1st language is not English) writing on social medias and they are not so sure about the use of this so common expression... is it THANKS GOD or THANK GOD???

Hoje estou trazendo uma dúvida à tona que muitos de meus alunos têm, eu vejo isso o tempo todo durante minhas aulas ou quando vejo as pessoas (cujo 1o. idioma não é o inglês) escrevendo nas mídias sociais e não têm muita certeza sobre o uso dessa expressão tão comum... é THANKS GOD ou THANK GOD???

Let me explain to you the reason why we should say THANK GOD. This expression comes from a shortened version of another one, "Thanks be to God", in which you tell the others how thankful you are to God. Another reason is that it's a verb, so we say "(I/we) Thank God".

Graças a Deus sou mulher

Vou explicar para vocês o motivo pelo qual devemos dizer THANK GOD. Essa expressão vem de uma versão diminuída de uma outra expressão, "Thanks be to God", em que você diz aos outros como você está agradecido a Deus. Outra razão é que se trata de um verbo, então dizemos "(eu/nós) Agradeço/Agradecemos a Deus".

When it comes to the use of THANKS, we have to take into account the use in a prayer, for example, when you are talking directly to God, so you could say "Thanks, God".

Quando se trata do uso de THANKS, temos que levar em consideração o uso em uma oração, por exemplo, quando você está falando diretamente com Deus, assim você poderia dizer "Obrigado, Deus".

In the previous post, Demi Lovato's song, she said something that can sound a little strange for many people... WEAR perfume. But why isn't it USE perfume??? Do you know when to use each of these words that mean the same in Portuguese (usar)???

No post anterior, a música da Demi Lovato, ela disse uma coisa que pode parecer um pouquinho estranho para muitas pessoas... WEAR perfume. Mas por que não é USE perfume??? Você sabe quando usar cada uma dessa palavras que significam a mesma coisa em português (usar)???

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: When to use MAKE and DO

Goooood morning!!!! I'm very happy today!!! I love waking up early, especially when I have time to stop by the bakery and get some fresh chocolate croissant... hmmmm!!! So good!!!

Bommmm dia!!!! Estou muito feliz hoje!!! Adoro acordar cedo, especialmente quando tenho tempo para dar uma passada na padaria e comprar croissant de chocolate fresquinho... hummmm!!! Muito bom!!!

Guys, take a look, we have here something that is quite confusing for many learners of English: when we use MAKE and DO. In Portuguese it's even worse because both words have the same basic translation which is "FAZER". Depending on the collocation, it changes a little, for example, MAKE A MISTAKE is not translated by "FAZER um erro" but "COMETER um erro". Anyway, it's good to have in mind a general rule:

Pessoal, deem uma olhada, temos aqui uma coisa que é bem confusa para muitos que estão aprendendo inglês: quando usamos MAKE e DO. Em português é ainda pior porque ambas as palavras têm a mesma tradução básica que é "FAZER". Dependendo da colocação, muda um pouco, por exemplo, MAKE A MISTAKE não é traduzido por "FAZER um erro" e sim "COMETER um erro". De qualquer forma, é bom ter em mente uma regra geral:

MAKE 

related to the preparation of something

relacionado com a preparação de algo

DO 

related to an activity

relacionado com uma atividade

For example, if I MAKE an English exercise, it means I prepared, I wrote the exercise to my students; and if I DO an English exercise, the exercise is ready and I'm testing myself, practicing English with that exercise.

Por exemplo, se eu faço um exercício de inglês, significa que eu preparei, eu escrevi o exercício para os meus alunos; e se eu faço um exercício de inglês, o exercício está pronto e estou me testando, praticando inglês com o exercício.

Remember that some uses of MAKE and DO are strictly that way, that is, they are collocations and should be known by heart.

Lembrem-se que alguns usos de MAKE e DO são estritamente daquela forma, ou seja, há colocações e devem ser conhecidas de cor.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: The "WRITE" Way... 8 commonly misused words

Guys, I found this chart on the internet and found so useful because it's sooooo true!!! So many times students of English get confused with some similar words... for example, in the tittle, we should use the word "RIGHT" which means "correct", not "WRITE" which means "communicate in writing".

Pessoal, encontrei esta tabela na internet e achei tão útil porque é muit000 verdade isso!!! Muitas vezes os alunos de inglês ficam confusos com algumas palavras parecidas... por exemplo, no título, deveríamos usar a palavra "RIGHT" que significa "correto", não "WRITE" que significa "comunicar por escrito".

Guys! Today I'm showing you the differences between American and British English that can be applied every time you have a word with the same model as the ones in the chart. For example in British English we always add the "u" in "or" endings such as "neighbor" x "neighbour", even though the pronunciation is basically the same. Check the other and don't forget that!!!

Pessoal! Hoje estou mostrando a vocês as diferenças entre o inglês americano e britânico que podem ser aplicadas todas as vezes que vocês tiverem um palavra com o mesmo modelo dessas na tabelas. Por exemplo, no inglês britânico sempre adicionamos o "u" nas terminações em "or" como "neighbor" x "neighbour", mesmo que a pronúncia seja praticamente a mesma. Vejam as outras e não se esqueçam disso!!!

Hey guys!!! It's very common to find mistakes in Marketing here in Brazil, when people want to use English to sound cooler but forget to get the translation done by a real translator, or at least to check if the sentence written in English (by a Brazilian) is correct.

Olá pessoal!!! É muito comum encontrar erros de Marketing aqui no Brasil, quando as pessoas querem usar inglês para parecer mais descolados mas se esquecem de pegar a tradução  feita por um tradutor de verdade, ou pelo menos verificar se a frase escrita em inglês (por um brasileiro) está correta.

So the challenge is: What's wrong in this sentence???

Então o desafio é: O que está errado nesta frase???

Se você respondeu o artigo THE você está certo!!! =D

We can't say "THE new", because "new" is an adjective and there's no noun after that (which is mandatory in case you use the article before the adjective), so it's not right saying that way. To make it correct, just say "What's new" or "What's the new collection/campaign/outfit/website/etc.", and then it's perfect!!!

Não podemos dizer "THE new", porque "novo" é um adjetivo e não tem nenhum substantivo depois dele (que é obrigatório no caso de uso de artigo antes do adjetivo), então não está certo dizer dessa forma. Para deixar correto, apenas diga "What's new" ou "What's the new colection/campaign/outfit/website/etc." e assim fica perfeito!!! [Qual é a nova coleção/campanha/roupa/site/etc.]

Hoje já é sexta-feira mas parece terça!!! Sim, o Carnaval acabou e a semana também. Um pouco de tempo extra para descansar e relaxar antes da segunda-feira de verdade.

And today I'd like to answer a question 2 dear readers made these days about the use of You and ME and You and I... When should we use each one of the expressions???

E hoje eu gostaria de responder uma pergunta que 2 queridas leitoras fizeram esses dias sobre o uso de You and ME e You and I... Quando devemos usar cada uma dessas expressões???

The rule of thumb here is finding if we are talking about a subject pronoun (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) or an object pronoun (me, you, him, her, it, us, them)... ok, no difficult grammar names, so I have a better tip:
A regra de ouro aqui é descobrir se estamos falando sobre um pronome sujeito (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) ou um pronome objeto (me, you, him, her, it, us, them)...

If the word comes before the verb, it's a subject (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) and if the word goes after the verb or the preposition, it's an object (me, you, him, her, its, us, them). Take a look at the examples:

Caso a palavra venha antes do verbo, é um sujeito (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) e caso a palavra for depois do verbo ou da preposição, é um objeto (me, you, him, her, its, us, them). 

You and I should go out tonight to celebrate.

Você e eu devemos sair hoje à noite para comemorar.

Martin is going out with you and me.

Martin vai sair com você e comigo.

Paty and I go to the same gym.

Paty e eu frequentamos a mesma academia.

Joan is thinking of joining the gym with Paty and me.

Joan está pensando em entrar na academia com a Paty e comigo.

You and I need to clean the mess after dinner.

Você e eu precisamos limpar a bagunça depois do jantar.
