SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: "What's the new"???

Hey guys!!! It's very common to find mistakes in Marketing here in Brazil, when people want to use English to sound cooler but forget to get the translation done by a real translator, or at least to check if the sentence written in English (by a Brazilian) is correct.

Olá pessoal!!! É muito comum encontrar erros de Marketing aqui no Brasil, quando as pessoas querem usar inglês para parecer mais descolados mas se esquecem de pegar a tradução  feita por um tradutor de verdade, ou pelo menos verificar se a frase escrita em inglês (por um brasileiro) está correta.

So the challenge is: What's wrong in this sentence???

Então o desafio é: O que está errado nesta frase???

If you answered the article THE you're right!!! =D

Se você respondeu o artigo THE você está certo!!! =D

We can't say "THE new", because "new" is an adjective and there's no noun after that (which is mandatory in case you use the article before the adjective), so it's not right saying that way. To make it correct, just say "What's new" or "What's the new collection/campaign/outfit/website/etc.", and then it's perfect!!!

Não podemos dizer "THE new", porque "novo" é um adjetivo e não tem nenhum substantivo depois dele (que é obrigatório no caso de uso de artigo antes do adjetivo), então não está certo dizer dessa forma. Para deixar correto, apenas diga "What's new" ou "What's the new colection/campaign/outfit/website/etc." e assim fica perfeito!!! [Qual é a nova coleção/campanha/roupa/site/etc.]

IN & NOW: Kristen Stewart's looks at the Premieres

Last week all the Twilight cast was working hard to make sure everyone would see their brand new movie Breaking Dawn Part 2 on the big screens! They traveled all around the world to the luxurious premieres they had to attend. I was impressed with Kristen's looks, which have changed a lot throughout the years, and for better, and I would like to share them here with you so that we can also practice some fashion vocabulary. Let's take a look at each one of them:

Este look é o mais comentado por causa do tecido nude transparente que mostrava a roupa íntima, super na moda e adequado para o corpo magro dela. Ela usou este incrível vestido de Zuhair Murad em LA. 

She innovated by wearing this black sequin and lace jumpsuit by Zuhair Murad at the premiere in the UK, showing she's a big fan of the renowed designer. 

Ela inovou ao usar este macacão de lantejoulas e renda pretas de Zuhair Murad na estréia no Reino Unido, mostrando que é grande fã do estilista renomado.  

Looking cute and young at the premiere in Madrid. Kristen is wearing a vibrant yellow mini dress by Dior and spiked ankle-strap pumps by Barbara Bois.

This look was worn in the premiere in Tokyo. It is a black and white checkboard playsuit from Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton which will be seen next season.

Este look foi usado na estreia em Tóquio. É um macaquinho quadriculado branco e preto de Marc Jacobs para Louis Vuitton que será visto na próxima coleção. 

In this one she was in Berlin. It's my favorite!!! She is wearing a gold sequin gown by Elie Saab and Christian Louboutin high heels. Love the dress + the hair!!!

Neste ela estava em Berlim. É o meu favorito!!! Ela está usando um vestido de lantejoulas douradas de Elie Saab e salto alto de Christian Louboutin. Amo o vestido + o cabelo!!!

IN & NOW: Victoria's Secrets Fashion Show

Earlier this month Victoria's Secrets had its annual fashion show with lots of beautiful models and famous singers on the catwalk. 

No começo do mês, a Victoria's Secrets fez seu desfile anual com muitas modelos lindas e cantores famosos na passarela.

In the first video you can watch the backstage with some models talking about the fashion show and how they get ready for it and many other things and in the second one there's a little of everything that happened on that day! Check it out!!!

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: Keep calm and USE sneakers???

Keep calm and USE sneaker????

First of all.... what is this "Keep Calm and..." that everyone is talking about??? If you google it, you find over 180 million pictures made with that headline!!! But its history is unknown by most people...

Primeiro de tudo... o que é esse "Keep Calm and..." de que todo mundo está falando??? Se você jogar no Google, você encontra mais de 180 milhões de imagens feitas com esse título!!! Mas a história é desconhecida pela maioria das pessoas...

"Keep Calm and Carry On" was a propaganda poster produced by the Government of the United Kingdom in 1939 during the beginning of the Second World War, intended to raise the morale of the British public in the event of a Nazi invasion of Britain. It had only limited distribution, and thus was little known. 

"Tenha Calma e Siga em Frente" foi um cartaz promocional produzido pelo Governo do Reino Unido em 1939 durante o começo da Segunda Guerra Mundial, que pretendia subir o moral do povo britânico em um momento de invasão nazista na Grã-Bretanha. Tinha somente uma distribuição limitada, e assim era pouco conhecido.

Since 2000 the poster has been re-issued by a number of private companies and used as the decorative theme for a range of products, as the one we saw in the beginning of this post. 

Desde 2000 o cartaz tem sido relançado por inúmeras empresas privadas e usado como tema decorativo para uma série de produtos, como aquele que vimos no começo deste post.

What about "Sneakers"??? In English is just how they say "tênis". It's much faster and more idiomatic than saying "tennis shoes". But nowadays this word has had a different meaning. It is related to the fashion shoes with heels hidden inside them, looking very sporty, like the very "sneakers". E quanto a "Sneakers"? Em inglês é somente como eles dizem "tênis". É muito mais rápido e mais idiomático do que dizer "tennis shoes". Mas hoje em dia essa palavra tem um significado diferente. Ela é relacionada com os sapatos da moda com saltos escondidos dentro deles, com uma aparência bem esportiva, como os próprios "tênis". Agora vamos para a diferença... o que está errado nesta frase???

The problem here is that we don't USE clothes, accessories and shoes... we WEAR them!!! This is a very common mistake people make by speaking English, because in Portuguese we have only one verb for both... So don't get tricked: "We USE the computer" and "We WEAR a beautiful dress.... and sneakers"!!! ;-)

O problema aqui é que nós não usamos [USE] roupas, acessórios e sapatos... nós os usamos [WEAR]!!! Esse é um erro muito comum que as pessoas cometem ao falar inglês, porque em português temos somente um verbo para ambos... Então não caia na pegadinha: "We USE the computer" e "We WEAR a beautiful dress... and sneakers"!!! ;-)

Se tem uma coisa que todo mundo está falando nos mais atuais blogs e sites é DIY... Mas você sabe do que se trata???

 DIY is simply the acronym for Do It Yourself!!!

DIY é simplesmente a sigla para Faça Você Mesmo!!!

This became an acronym full of meaning for everyone in the world nowadays!!! It means you can do something rather than buying it ready. It's a good escape for those who want/need to save some money!!!

Isso se tornou uma sigla cheia de significado para todo mundo hoje em dia!!! Significa que você pode fazer algo em vez de comprar pronto. É uma boa fuga para quem quer/precisa economizar!!!
