EXPRESSION OF THE DAY: Jump out of your skin

 When you hear or read this expression - JUMP OUT OF YOUR SKIN - what comes to mind??? Would it be like in the picture below in which the snake literally changes its skin???

Quando você ouve ou lê esta expressão - JUMP OUT OF YOUR SKIN - o que vem em mente??? Seria como na foto em que a cobra literalmente troca de pele???

Nooooo... idioms are completely not literal, so we have to find the meaning behind each little word.

Nãoooo... as expressões idiomáticas são completamente não literais, portanto precisamos encontrar o significado por trás de cada palavrinha.

According to the Oxford Idioms Dictionary, this idiom is defined as "Make a quick, sudden movement because something has suddenly frightened you." Take a look at some of the examples:

De acordo com o Dicionário Oxford Idioms, essa expressão idiomática é definida como "Fazer um movimento rápido e repentino porque alguma coisa assustou você de repente". Dê uma olhada em alguns exemplos:

When I heard the explosion, I nearly jumped out of my skin.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: "What's the new"???

Hey guys!!! It's very common to find mistakes in Marketing here in Brazil, when people want to use English to sound cooler but forget to get the translation done by a real translator, or at least to check if the sentence written in English (by a Brazilian) is correct.

Olá pessoal!!! É muito comum encontrar erros de Marketing aqui no Brasil, quando as pessoas querem usar inglês para parecer mais descolados mas se esquecem de pegar a tradução  feita por um tradutor de verdade, ou pelo menos verificar se a frase escrita em inglês (por um brasileiro) está correta.

So the challenge is: What's wrong in this sentence???

Então o desafio é: O que está errado nesta frase???

If you answered the article THE you're right!!! =D

Se você respondeu o artigo THE você está certo!!! =D

We can't say "THE new", because "new" is an adjective and there's no noun after that (which is mandatory in case you use the article before the adjective), so it's not right saying that way. To make it correct, just say "What's new" or "What's the new collection/campaign/outfit/website/etc.", and then it's perfect!!!

Não podemos dizer "THE new", porque "novo" é um adjetivo e não tem nenhum substantivo depois dele (que é obrigatório no caso de uso de artigo antes do adjetivo), então não está certo dizer dessa forma. Para deixar correto, apenas diga "What's new" ou "What's the new colection/campaign/outfit/website/etc." e assim fica perfeito!!! [Qual é a nova coleção/campanha/roupa/site/etc.]

So girls... I talked about the movies, I talked about the best dressed women at the Oscars 2013, but I can't help writing this last post about the Oscars...so we can practice some adjective vocabulary!!! Let's brainstorm what adjectives in English, of course, come to mind when you see the Best of the Oscars 2013!!! Here it is: Bradley Cooper!!! =D

Então meninas... falei sobre os filmes, falei sobre as mulheres mais bem vestidas no Oscar 2013, mas não consigo deixar de escrever este último post sobre o Oscar... assim podemos praticar um pouco de vocabulário de adjetivos!!!
