SPOT THE DIFFERENCE: Wedding x Marriage

Olá pessoal!!!

I was here this morning, dreaming a little on the most fabulous websites and blogs for brides since recently I have become one too, and remembered some of my English classes where I have pointed out the difference between WEDDING and MARRIAGE.... do you know the difference between them??? (if you were one of my students you should know!!!)

Eu estava aqui hoje de manhã, sonhando um pouco nos sites e blogs mais maravilhosos para noivas já que recentemente eu me tornei uma também, e me lembrei de algumas das minhas aulas de inglês em que eu destaquei a diferença entre WEDDING e MARRIAGE... você sabe a diferença entre elas??? (se você foi um dos meus alunos você deve saber!!!)

The problem in these words for Brazilians is that the translation is exactly the same! Casamento! But each one has a different meaning. Let's see:

O problema nessas palavras para os brasileiros é que a tradução é exatamente a mesma! Casamento! Mas cada uma tem um significado diferente. Vamos ver:

WEDDING refers to the party you have, the day you tie the knot, that special moment in the bride and groom's lives.

WEDDING se refere à festa que você faz, o dia que você se casa, aquele momento especial na vida da noiva e do noivo.

While MARRIAGE is the relationship the husband and wife have together as a couple after that special celebration.

Enquanto MARRIAGE é o relacionamento que o marido e a esposa têm juntos como um casal depois daquela comemoração especial.

So we can say:

Então podemos dizer:

I'm planning a lot to have a beautiful WEDDING.

Estou planejando muito para ter um CASAMENTO lindo.

My grandparents had a wonderful MARRIAGE, they were together for over 60 years.

Meus avós tiveram um CASAMENTO maravilhoso, eles ficaram juntos por mais de 60 anos.

Paul and Jane are expecting to have just a few people celebrating with them in their WEDDING.

Paul e Jane estão esperando somente poucas pessoas para celebrar com eles em seu CASAMENTO.

Couples should be very pacient to be able to have a happy MARRIAGE.

Os casais devem ser muito pacientes para serem capazes de ter uma CASAMENTO feliz.
